In July 2010, Hunterfive acquired Western Australia’s leading automotive publishing brand – the AutoTrader Group. The acquisition from Telstra was based on the strategic synergies the business shares with JUST Auto – the flagship of the Hunterfive group which leads the niche automotive market along the east coast of Australia.
Extending the Hunterfive automotive publishing footprint in Western Australia, the AutoTrader Group comprises the WA AutoTrader and BoaTrader magazines. The AutoTrader Group originated as a family owned enterprise, and the story of its inception is common to that of JUST Magazines – both businesses commencing operation in 1989, from family homes on opposite sides of the country.
A passion for the automotive industry, and an understanding of the core enthusiast markets within, have seen both businesses grow into multi-media entities. Whilst JUST Auto and AutoTrader service different sides of the market and the country, there are economies and opportunities for both under the Hunterfive umbrella.
The acquisition also supports Ash Hunter’s strategic pillar of “what/when/how” in relation to consumer content delivery. Future developments for the AutoTrader brand and product will fit with giving consumers the content they want, when they want it, and how they want to consume it – be this in print, online, mobile or at events.
